Must say hello to my good friend Nizam Ali

July 15, 2008 by smilingcashier

This good friend of mine…has followed along gracefully, encouraging me by unfolding biblical truths.

His kind words give me strength and the will to carry on.

Nisam, I never told you the one big secret that I hold close to my heart. It doesn’t matter if I know the date or the hour. When God wants to take me…it’ll be ok!

You see, because of what Jesus did for everyone…His going to the cross for us, I made Him my savior, and because of His promise…I know that I will spend eternity with Him! There is no reason to get upset and nervous. Everyday now is a day of rejoicing…that I can live today,  like I’m dying.

I think I should start a ‘bucket list’…things I want to get done before my time here on earth is over!

Well…keep the home fires burning in Trinidad and Togago. Kiss the family for me!

If you want…you can comment on these thoughts like you have before…OK?

Till next time

Ron….the smiling cashier.

Back at the salt mines! !

July 6, 2008 by smilingcashier

Hello again – -

I just finished my first week back to work! It was both strange and fun at the same time!

So many people rescheduled their trip to recycling so they could say hello to me and
offer their best wishes personally.

The greatest feeling you can imagine is friends telling you they are and will continue to
pray for you. That’s awesome!

Meanwhile…life as I know it, goes on.

Here is a tip. Make your life meaningful and make each day count.

Embracing your mortality sets you free to live a meaningful and satisfying life without regret!

That’s it for now…till next time…

Support is near…

April 10, 2008 by smilingcashier

It never fails to amaze me, as I turn around, there always seems to be a friend there wanting to help in any way they can!

Dick called and has suggested we get together for breakfast.

Sarge called and wants to go to breakfast too…isn’t that great?

I’m all for breakfast too…these guys didn’t know if I was game to go!

These friends are like family to me…they keep asking at Alpco about me and it’s nice to know they care. You know…when support is close at hand…it makes a big difference in how you face the road ahead.

In my earlier post I talked about the three words, and these friends of mine added three words and they make a difference! Their words are… ‘We Can Help’

All my friends are simply wonderful!

Till next time…you can tell I’m feeling better…I’m running off at the mouth! LOL

Three Little Words…

April 1, 2008 by smilingcashier

When these three words turn your world upside down it sure is nice to have friends like I have

   The words…..”You Have Cancer”

Cancer changes everything. The diagnosis changes everything. It affects how you look at your life, how you feel about yourself and how you deal with your loved ones and with those around you!

My new world is filled with information and medical terms I never really wanted to learn. All this on top of how I cope with just getting thru each day.

The support of you my friends really helps me through the day. Everyone offers help and hope.

Look…so many of these friends tell me they’re praying for me and telling me as well that God is on my side!

To sum it up…I’m feeling great and can’t wait to say Hi to all my friends.

Now for some exciting news

The doctor called me to tell me they have everything under control and for the past 3 weeks…or so, I have reached a plateau…or leveled off. He says that if you level off for a period of time…you have reached about 90% remission. Because there is no cure…that’s good news…and it probably doesn’t get much better than that!

Do something

Get Involved! Make An Effort To Make A Difference

Even a small shift in your attitudes and actions, multiplied many times over by others accepting this challenge, can change the world.

Maybe you’ll throw those soft drink cans in the recycle bin. Or buy recycled content products. Or participate in an America Recycles event.

Even organize one yourself! The more you do, the better. But even a little helps a lot.

You Gotta Help Yourself!

The junk mail we Americans receive in one day could produce enough energy to heat 250,000 homes! The junk mail issue is a tough one to sort through. After all, many of us rely on mail from non-profit groups for credible information about important environmental and social issues. Plus, direct mail is a fundraising lifeline for environmental groups and a key means of mobilizing grass-roots action to protect the earth!

But unwanted junk mail is more than just a nonsense – it’s and environmental hazard. If you saved all the unwanted paper you’ll receive in the mail this year, you’d have the equivalent of 1-½ trees. And so would each of your neighbors. And that adds up to 100 million trees every year.

Here are some facts

Did you know?

  • Americans receive almost 2 million tons of junk mail every year.
  • About 44% of the junk mail is never opened or read?
  • Nonetheless, the average American still spends 8 full months of his or her life just opening junk mail.
  • If only 100,000 people stopped their Junk Mail…we could save about 150,000trees every year. If a million people did, we could save some 1.5 million trees.

Simple Things T o Do:

  • Write to Mail Preference Service, Direct Marketing Association, 6 East 43 rd Street. New York. NY 10017.

They’ll stop your name from being sold to most large mailing list companies. This will reduce your junk mail up to 75%.

  • Recycle the junk mail you already get: If it’s printed on newsprint, toss it in with the newspapers. If it’s quality paper, make a separate pile for it – many recycling centers accept both white and colored stock.

What are your junk mail feelings? You are welcome to make a comment. Just click where it says comments at the end of the post.

It’s Pay Back Time

March 3, 2007 by smilingcashier

It’s Payback Time

Things start small and slow – but this one has a chance to go over in a bigger way!

As I was studying the problem of recycling…I noticed @, http://recyclingguide.org.uk/blog.html

that the Government in England has said that instead of scrapping your finished auto — the car manufacturer’s are to buy back the car leaving less scrap to sit around. I like this idea. We in this country have a program called – ’Kidney Cars”, this way, getting a charitable donation for your old car…keeping it off the streets or out of the junk yard.

You may want to look at this blog with reference to recycling electronic equipment http://recyclingguide.org.uk/blog.html

Continuing with recycling and energy conservation, here in this country…Bank of America has expanded it’s trial offer to reimburse employees $3000 when they purchase a new hybrid vehicle.

This banking company said the program is now open to more than 185,000 bank workers.

Now this Banking company has only one concern. How about this ‘catching’ – - and other company’s offering this type program to their employees too.

Now this could be the start of something big. If you have a thought on this…there is a way you can comment…

Click comment at the end of this post and speak your mind.

Even a Little Effort, makes a difference!

Why is there so much ‘DENYING’ going on?

February 23, 2007 by smilingcashier

The weather forcasters are a die hard bunch of guys/gals that feel they should stand pat on the position there is no such thing as Greenhouse Effect or World warming!

As I get older I’m told I seem to take a position of denial on a lot of topics.

Ok…just for a minute let’s get technical. ‘OZONE’  the primary component of smog, is a gas formed when nitrogen oxide and hydrocarbons combine in sunlight. In the atmosphere, ozone occurs naturally as a thin layer that protects us from the sun’s ultraviolet rays;  but when it’s formed at ground level, it’s deadly.

Then – where does it come from?

Cars, trucks and buses…are one of the chief sources of ozone. Utilities, oil and chemical plants are also a large part of the problem.

Ozone is a shield for us here on earth and its lack is being blamed fo extensive damage to ‘pines’ in California and in the eastern United States – It’s also to blame for crop losses in many agricultural states.

What’s next?

As ozone diminishes in the upper atmosphere – the earth receives more ultraviolet radiation and it affects the well being of every person on the planet!

Now — lets look back over our shoulder.

Yes… the lack of ozone is allowing our earth to get more unfiltered sunshine…

Yes… the average temperature is increasing…

Yes… glaciers are melting more or faster…

Yes…we have to stop denying. Accept life…

We do have a greenhouse affect.

Is Getting Back To Water, A Good Thing?

Is Getting Back to Water…a Good Thing?
(c) Copyright 2007 by Ron Wagner

This may come as a surprise…  but the sale of bottled
water has had a meteoric growth.

What happens to those plastic bottles?

Unfortunately, bottled water is being consumed…on the go.
What happens when you finish your water…well first thought
if there is no deposit on the container, out it goes in the
trash!

Wrong move.

Lets stand back and take a longer look at this from a
different perspective. Water is really not pushed
commercially as the carbonated soft drinks are…and with
low ad budgets, they are second only to the soft drink
industry, and the beverages being consumed.

Without a deposit requirement a lot of the plastic bottles
end up in landfill.

The general population seems to have become immune to
keeping waste water bottles out of trash containers.

Want more bad news?… people think because something is
plastic, we can recycle it.

It’s a real shame how the public puts it’s own selfish needs
in front of what we call common sense!

It’s like the people who expect dirty greasy–used paper
plates to be recycled. Oh yes…and by the way…

“All plastics are not created equal!”

As a recycling center…the business is here to recycle and
make a profit.

We must have companies lined up that will buy the recycleable
discards. If we can’t find a home for it…(that is somebody
who will pay for it)…it ends up in landfill. Too bad!

The single serve beverage containers such as soda, juices
and water, have challenged the recycle industry as many of
the beverages are consumed away from home and not recycled.

Local government bears the burden of this huge increase of
packaged beverage container losses. And there are
environmental repercussions no matter what happens to the
beverage container after they’re used.

Single serve beverage containers will continue to challenge
customer intent about keeping thase beverage containers out
of landfills.

Would you believe  ’There’s a huge demand for recycling
feedstock”.

It all depends on what the consumer does or puts them after
the fact!
